Meet the newest members of our team!

31 July 2020

Plastipack would like to introduce you to some of the newest members of our team:

Joe Webster joined us in October of 2019 as our new Research and Development Engineer, supporting Tim Fielder, our Product Development Manager in testing and developing new products and improvements to our current range. Joe joined us fresh out of Loughborough University where he graduated with a BEng (Hons) in Biomaterials Engineering.

Customer Service Administrator Cara Austin joined us in the midst of the pandemic in April 2020. Despite the less the than ideal timing of the start to her new position, Cara’s many years of experience in customer service roles have made her ideally suited to support Stephen Daly in his role as Customer Service Manager, ensuring that all orders and deliveries are dealt with in a professional manner, even during these trying times.

As we come to the end of Adam Rae ‘s placement year with us, we welcome Arunan Tharmalingam to the team as he starts his own placement year. Both are students from the University of Surrey, studying their Masters in Engineering. We thank Adam for all of his contributions to the R&D team as well as his support to Marketing Executive Sarah Duggan, and wish him the very best in his future endeavours, and look forward to working with Arunan as he supports Joe and Tim on the development and improvement of our product range.

Plastipack publishes scientific paper in collaboration with University of Surrey

20 July 2020

Plastipack Ltd is thrilled to announce the publication of its scientific paper in partnership with the University of Surrey’s Physics department.

Published in ‘Solar Energy’, the paper explains in detail how EnergyGuard™ Selective Transmission has been scientifically designed to maximise solar gains whilst filtering out those wavelengths of light responsible for algae growth.”

Contributors to the paper include our Managing Director Peter Adlington, Product Development Manager Tim Fielder, former KTP research scientist Rémi Waché, and two former placement students from the University of Surrey, Joe Hall and Will Dickinson.

EnergyGuard™ Selective Transmission offers optimised solar gains and algae inhibition, effectively delivering the best possible balance between solar heat gain, chemical and filtration reductions, making it the most innovative solar cover to date. The bubble layer of the material uses a midnight blue pigment which gives the material its selective transmission properties. This works as a selective filter absorbing the visible wavelengths responsible for photosynthesis. This absorbed energy is passed to the pool through conduction, while the transmission properties of the bubble layer allows for Infrared radiation (IR) to pass through the material and be directly absorbed by the water.

Introducing - A refreshing solution to temperature management

01 November 2018

Plastipack Ltd is thrilled to announce the launch of a brand new addition to our range of pool covering materials.

CoolGuard™ Ultra has been designed and rigorously tested in partnership with The University of Surrey to dramatically decrease daily solar gains by up to 55% and maintain a cooler pool.

Its Glacial Blue colouring brings a substantial improvement in reflectivity across the visible and IR spectrum,  providing a barrier to reduce solar gains, ensuring a refreshing swimming temperature.

Utilising the unique profile of the GeoBubble™ technology air cells, CoolGuard™ Ultra provides both buoyancy and an insulative air gap to control heat transfer enabling the material to manage the pool environment and keep the pool at the desired temperature.

Like all our materials, CoolGuard™ Ultra also provides a barrier to prevent debris from entering the pool, as well as preventing water loss through evaporation.

Plastipack wins Institute of Physics Business Innovation Award

Plastipack Ltd has been awarded the 2018 Institute of Physics Business Innovation Award for the development of EnergyGuard™ Selective Transmission material in collaboration with the University of Surrey. The award recognises Plastipack’s excellence in innovation, delivering significant economical and societal impact through the application of physics.

Plastipack has been awarded the prize at an event at the Houses of Parliament for the development of its swimming pool cover material – EnergyGuard™ Selective Transmission. This material maximises pool temperatures while inhibiting the growth of algae, making it Plastipack’s most innovative and environmentally friendly cover material to date, reducing heating costs as well as chemical usage.

Each year, the Institute of Physics (IOP) awards the prize to a handful of small, medium and large companies that have excelled in innovation, delivering significant economic and/or societal impact through the application of physics.

Maximising pool temperature while inhibiting algae growth is now possible with this innovative light filtering material. Offering optimised solar gain and algae inhibition, the patented EnergyGuard™ ST material effectively delivers the best possible balance between solar heat gain, chemical and filtration reductions, making it the most innovative solar cover to date.

The material’s bubble layer uses a midnight blue pigment combination, giving the material its selective transmission properties. The pigment formulation works as a selective filter absorbing the visible wavelengths responsible for photosynthesis. This absorbed energy is passed to the pool through conduction, while the transmission properties of the bubble layer allows for Infrared radiation wavelengths to pass through the material and be directly absorbed by the water.

Like all our materials, EnergyGuard™ ST provides a barrier to evaporation, giving the pool the ability to preserve water and reduce heat loss through evaporative cooling.

New product release EnergyGuard™ selective transmission!

November 2015

New EnergyGuard™ selective transmission

No longer will pool owners have to compromise between the heating performance of a pool cover and the chemical savings provided by the inhibition of algae. The new materials patent applied for* midnight blue selective transmission bubble layer absorbs wavelengths used by algae during photosynthesis passing this energy to the pool via conduction while allowing the transmittance of infrared wavelengths through to provide direct heat gain.

Developed in collaboration with the University of Surrey’s Advanced Technology Institute as part of a Knowledge transfer partnership the New EnergyGuard™ selective transmission innovations mark the next generation of swimming pool cover material.
