VapourGuard installation

VapourGuard installation by Fabtech SA Pty Ltd in Arno Bay, South Australia (1,800m2)

We can not live without water. It is a precious resource that is becoming scarcer with a growing population and prevailing drought conditions affecting many regions.

A VapourGuard geomembrane cover will protect your stored water and collect rainfall in your dam or reservoir. The bubble material creates a floating cover that is self supporting due to millions of small air cells.

The VapourGuard material is supplied to fabricators in roll form that is 2m and 2.5m wide x 90m. The bubble cover is dual extruded from polyethylene that is 540 Microns thick.

VapourGuard is ideal as a dam and reservoir cover. It is suitable for modular fabrication using the proven hot wedge geomembrane welding technology. Individual sections of up to 1000m2 are typically fabricated in a factory and welded on site during geomembrane installation.

The benefits of a VapourGuard cover

Your water is kept cooler and cleaner

The light top surface is designed to reflect the sun’s heat away from the water surface area. The dark underside of the VapourGuard material is designed to prevent light penetrating the surface, inhibiting algae growth in the contained water.

Collect rainfall

Small drainage holes allow rainwater to be harvested through the VapourGuard geomembrane.

Reduce contamination

By virtually sealing the surface area, air born debris is substantially reduced.

Eliminate water evaporation by 98%+

If you are storing water for crop irrigation, agriculture, hydroponics, mining and drinking water, for example, you will be losing millions of litres of water through evaporation. A VapourGuard evaporation cover will eliminate this loss by 98%+.

Research carried out in collaboration with Brighton and London Metropolitan Universities proved, under conservative heat and wind conditions, that the average loss per square metre of water surface area in the UK is in the region of 1,000 litres (one cubic meter) per year. This figure is considerably higher for hotter climates. Save this and it could mean the difference between having a crop or livestock to sell or not!

Strong welded seams

The VapourGuard geomembrane is manufactured with a weld edge to join sections of the cover together. Hot wedge welding is used to create strong seams for covering expanses of water.

Perimeter anchorage

Perimeter anchorage of the VapourGuard geomembrane to prevent the wind from lifting the cover.

5 year warranty

The VapourGuard material has a 5 year pro rata warranty against UV breakdown due to sunlight exposure.

Environmental Benefits

The VapourGuard cover conserves water and, at the end of its life, is 100% recyclable.

VapourGuard installations

The VapourGuard cover has been successfully installed in a number of sites in Australia. The photographs are of installations by Fabtech SA Pty Ltd in Australia.

To date, Fabtech’s installations range in size from 600m2. Customers include primary producers (wine growers, cattle farmers, poultry breeders) and salt exporters.

The photographs show ‘before and after views’ of a VapourGuard geomembrane installation on a dam for a wine grower (1,750m2). This particular project combined 3 products – HDPE lined water storage, evaporation cover (VapourGuard) and rainwater harvesting.

Testimonial

"We have successfully installed VapourGuard floating covers at a number of small to medium sized dam sites.  The material is self-supporting, strong and easy to weld.  It gives our customers the results they need in terms of evaporation prevention, stopping algae growth and harvesting rainfall.  The Plastipack team give us excellent customer service with fast response times and detailed order schedules.  We feel very confident that they will always support our business in any way they can.  We certainly recommend VapourGuard for dams and reservoirs up to 40ML/12,000 m2."
